If you don’t belong to the NRA you don’t get updates like I do from the NRA-ILA about stuff going on in my area revolving around anything firearms or something that may infringe on my 2nd Amendment rights. You probably have heard about the recent debacle with the Missouri Department of Revenue. If you haven’t read up on my blog as I have several posts regarding the subject. Here is what NRA sent out to me this morning:

“As we have previously reported, the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) initiated a new and dangerous procedure of scanning, keeping and sharing personal documents with the federal government related to the issuance of your driver’s license and right to carry permit. This recordkeeping and sharing of private documents by the DOR is a serious violation of public trust and the Missouri Legislature is taking swift action to remove DOR’s role in the permit issuing process by pursuing enactment of House Bill 8.

HB 8, sponsored by state Representative Rick Stream (R-90) and spearheaded through the Missouri Senate by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Kurt Schaefer (R-19), is a funding measure that transfers the authority for issuance of Right-to-Carry permit certificates and the permits themselves from the DOR to Missouri sheriffs.

To pursue this evolving issue and obtain answers on these invasions of privacy, the Senate Appropriations Committee is holding hearings in the following cities to receive public input on HB 8, and how it relates to the budget and funding process.

Please attend these important meetings and thank the Senate Appropriations Committee for taking the appropriate steps to protect the privacy of Missouri’s permit holders.”
